EMPRETEC Namibia Programme
1. Introduction
Enhancing Entrepreneurship Development Programme in Namibia is an initiative of the Government of Namibia working in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Namibia), with the aim of unlocking the growth potential of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Namibia through a competency-based behavioural entrepreneurship training and the provision of a bouquet of business advisory services. The entire scope of the program is hinged on four (4) key pillars namely, Institutional Capacity Development, Entrepreneurship Development, Establishment of start-ups and enterprises’ growth, and the development of a National Entrepreneurship Strategy and Stakeholder Dialogue, for MSME Development.
The Government of the Republic of Namibia and UNDP Namibia identified the need to support entrepreneurs in the country with the establishment of EMPRETEC Namibia for the development of Entrepreneurship skills for enterprise development. The Enhancing Entrepreneurship Development Programme in is established under the EMPRETEC framework of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) initiative. The Programme was officially launched on 16th October 2019 at the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM).
2. Objectives
The overall objective of the programme (i.e. Empretec Namibia Programme) is to bring about transformational change in unleashing the growth potential of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Namibia through the entrepreneurial behaviour modification and mind-set change, skills development, and the provision of comprehensive range of Business Development Advisory Services (BDS). The immediate objectives of the programme are:
• To create general entrepreneurial awareness, enhance indigenous entrepreneurship skills and develop an effective entrepreneurial and business advisory services delivery capacity in Namibia.
• To enhance the operational efficiency and competitiveness of MSMEs in Namibia and to assist companies to diversify into new product areas.
• To develop bankable project plans for new ventures as well as existing businesses for expansion and to assist them to negotiate for financing.
This can be achieved through assisting MSME clients of EMPRETEC Namibia that would have evolved from the programme’s training workshops to improve their operational performance. Specifically, the the purpose of the Business Development Advisory Services is to facilitate access to finding, access to markets, as well as business linkages through the provision of extensive practical hands-on business advisory services by local UNCTAD certified Business Development Advisors.
3 Mission
To promote entrepreneurship as a vital component of economic growth and develop entrepreneurship strategy; identify and select growth-oriented enterprises as well as potential entrepreneurs for support.
4. Vision
To eradicate poverty through self-employment of identified unemployed youth, women entrepreneurs and the vulnerable poor using a comprehensive integrated range of business development services in Namibia.

EMPRETEC Namibia is organizing its flagship Entrepreneurship Training Workshops for Business owners, Managers of Micro, Small & Medium sized businesses, Corporate Managers responsible for change management & People who intend to start their own businesses.
